37 Thai provinces issued warning for heavy rain and storms

The Meteorological Department has announced that 37 provinces in Thailand are under a weather warning due to a moderate southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Heavy rain is expected to impact 60% of Bangkok today, June 3.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours predicts thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain across several regions due to a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam. In the Andaman Sea, moderate winds are creating waves around two metres high, with higher waves during thunderstorms.

In northern Thailand, 60% of the area, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Tak, and Phitsanulok provinces, will experience thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain. Temperatures range between 24 degrees Celsius (°C) and 26°C at the lowest and 31°C to 35°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at speeds of 5 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).

Northeast Thailand will see thunderstorms over 40% of the area, notably in Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures are expected to be between 24°C to 26°C and 33°C to 35°C, with winds blowing southwesterly at 10 to 20 km/h.

In central Thailand, thunderstorms are likely in 40% of the area, especially around Uthai Thani, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 26°C and 34°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.

Eastern Thailand will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in regions like Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will vary from 24°C to 28°C and 32°C to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will see waves around one metre high, increasing to over two metres during storms.

Strong winds

Southern Thailand (east coast) will have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, affecting provinces such as Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures range from 24°C to 27°C and 34°C to 35°C, with winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves of about one metre, higher during storms.

Southern Thailand (west coast) will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, primarily in Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Temperatures will be between 25°C to 27°C and 31°C to 34°C. From Phang Nga upwards, winds will be southwesterly at 20 to 35 km/h, with waves around two metres, rising during storms. South of Phuket, winds will be at 15 to 35 km/h, with seas one to two metres high, increasing in stormy weather.

Bangkok and its vicinity are expected to experience thunderstorms, affecting approximately 60% of the area, with possible heavy rainfall. Temperatures will vary between 26°C to 27°C and 33°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
